Shared Values Are the Basis of Civil Society
I believe that we in New Hampshire share fundamental values. Some of these values are enshrined within our constitution; others are not. But in either case, it is these values that bind us together.
Every Member of Our Community has a Right to be Protected by It
Article XII of Bill of Rights in the New Hampshire constitution states this clearly. This is the first duty of government. I will see to it that all the departments that provide these protections to us are adequately funded.
Our Society is Judged by How We Treat the Least of Our Members
Humanity dictates that we should care for those who are unable to care for themselves. In many cases, it pays to be proactive and help people before they lose their homes or their health. This applies to children as well as adults. I attended the foster care and adoption classes and understand some of the extra needs of children who can no longer live with their parents. I will vote for funding effective programs that address these needs.
Investing for our Future Means More Than Just Infrastructure
Certainly we must maintain our aging infrastructure: roads, bridges, and schools. But much more important, we need to invest in the education of our children. It is essential that we teach our children the skills they will need so that they can preserve our democracy. To see the return on this investment, we need to retain our talented young people with affordable housing and strong career prospects.
